Customs & Traditions In the Greek tradition it is St. Basil — not St. Nicholas — who is remembered with gift-giving at the New Year (his feast, Jan 1), and a 'vasilopita' is cut with a coin baked inside; the one who receives the slice with the coin is held blessed for the year.
Notes One of the Three Hierarchs (Jan 30).
