Life
Elpidius of Lyon, also recorded as Helpidius, was a bishop of Lyon in Gaul in the early fifth century. He succeeded Antiochus of Lyon and held the see from about 410 until his death in 422, and was in turn succeeded by Sicarius of Lyon.
He is firmly attested in the episcopal succession lists of the See of Lyon, but his Life (vita) has not survived. Apart from the tradition that he served his diocese faithfully, no details of his episcopate are recorded. He died of natural causes in 422 and is venerated as a confessor; as a pre-schism Western hierarch he is counted among the Latin saints of the Orthodox Patriarchate of Rome. His feast is kept on September 2.
