Life
Manuel and Theodosius were two Christians martyred for their faith around the year 304, during the persecutions of the early fourth century. The synaxarion places their suffering at Sirmium, a city of the Roman province of Pannonia that was a frequent site of martyrdoms in this period. They are commemorated on March 27.
According to the tradition, the two were moved by the constancy of the Christians whom they saw put to death day after day. Coming to faith in Christ, they resolved to share the same lot, and boldly confessed themselves Christians before the pagan governor, who, with those about him, marveled at their courage.
They were cast into prison and kept under strict guard. Brought out after some days and pressed to renounce Christ and offer sacrifice to the idols, they held firm in their confession. The governor then ordered them suspended from a tree and torn with sharp iron hooks, and so they completed their martyrdom.
