Life

Longinus of Asistavi is a martyr venerated in the Georgian Orthodox tradition and commemorated on October 16. No detailed account of his life survives, and the standard synaxarion entries record only his name, his rank as a martyr, and his association with Asistavi in Georgia.

Because no biographical record is preserved, the circumstances, dates, and era of his martyrdom are unknown. His veneration is attested chiefly through his place in the liturgical calendar and the generic martyr hymns appointed for his feast.

KontakionTone 2

(Podoben: “You sought the heights...”) You appeared as a bright star announcing Christ with your radiance,
which is repulsive to this world, O Martyr Longinus;
extinguishing the allure of false gods,
you enlighten the faithful,
always interceding for us all.

TroparionTone 3

Your holy martyr Longinus, O Lord,
through his sufferings has received an incorruptible crown from You, our God.
For having Your strength, he laid low his adversaries,
and shattered the powerless boldness of demons.
Through his intercessions, save our souls!

State of the Record

The Orthodox Church in America's synaxarion lists him among the commemorations of October 16 but provides no biography, stating only that no information is available for this saint. OrthodoxWiki has no article on him, and no entry was found in Wikipedia or other consulted references.

The only liturgical material associated with him is a troparion and kontakion in the standard martyr form, which praise his endurance and ask his intercession but supply no biographical specifics such as dates, place, or the circumstances of his martyrdom.

No glorification date or formal canonization act was found in the sources consulted; his presence in the liturgical calendar implies established veneration.
