Saint Magdalena of Mălainița
A Romanian woman of Malajnica in eastern Serbia, widowed within a year of her marriage when her husband died in the First World War. With the priests arrested under the occupation she walked five kilometres each day in every weather to chant the services, and lived a monastic life in the world while herding sheep; 'God sees' was the word always on her lips.
