Saint Matrona of Hurezi
Also known as Matrona Ciupelea · the abbess Matrona of Hurezi
Daughter of a shepherd of Săliște in Transylvania whose father later became a monk on Athos, she was raised from the age of five at Sărăcinești Monastery and tonsured in 1868. She spent more than fifty years in obedience at Hurezi before being elected its abbess in 1922, restoring the common table and the order of its monastic life.
