The angels whom God appoints to protect, guide, and spiritually care for individual human beings. Rooted in Christ’s words that the little ones’ “angels always behold the face of My Father” (Matthew 18:10), the Orthodox teaching holds that God assigns an angel to watch over each of the faithful — traditionally numbered among the Angels, the ninth rank and the order nearest to humanity.
