The Calendar

Day tints show liturgical colors commonly used in Orthodox practice. The Church broadly distinguishes bright, festal colors from dark, penitential ones; more detailed assignments vary widely.

• Gold — bright or festal use — ordinary Sundays and general festal days
• White — Pascha, the paschal season, and major feasts of the Lord
• Blue — feasts of the Theotokos
• Red — martyrs, Cross observances, and other assigned days
• Green — ordinary time, Pentecost, and observances of the Holy Spirit
• Purple — Great Lent, Holy Week, the Nativity Fast, and days of repentance
• Dark — the most solemn Passion services

Fasting badges

Fasting is shown separately from the liturgical color, as a small corner badge; days without a recorded rule carry no badge. In theNew Calendar view, fasting follows the practice of theGreek Orthodox Archdiocese; in theOld Calendar view, Russian Orthodox practice. These summaries are descriptive, not prescriptive — if your parish follows a different practice, speak with your parish priest.
